“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Change is indeed the only constant in life and organizations must adapt to stay relevant. As I’ve often said, we have to continually renew our organizations to reflect the changes with which we are faced. This requires creating a new vision that involves all stakeholders, because vision and action are the ultimate power couple – they induce synergy.

The mistake many make is trying to fit new ideas into old frameworks, like putting new wine into old wineskins. It just doesn’t work. The old structures can’t handle the fermentation process, and everything gets lost. It’s the same with transformative ideas and rigid mindsets – they don’t mix.

Whether it’s an airline, government department, state-owned enterprise, private business or other elements of civil society, the solution is the same to stay in sync with the changing world.

Barbados Minister of Finance Ryan Straughn’s 2026 budget theme, “Greater Will Our Nation Grow,” is a great example of this forward thinking.

So, how do we create effective change management strategies? Here are some key considerations: (1) Involve stakeholders – engage with employees, customers and partners to understand their needs and concerns; (2) Communicate clearly – share your vision and the reasons behind the change; (3) Build capacity – provide training and resources to support and implement the transformative action; (4) Monitor progress – track key metrics and adjust your approach as needed; and (5) Celebrate successes – recognize and reward achievements along the way.

By embracing change and creating a culture of continuous improvement, organizations can stay ahead of the curve and achieve sustainable progress. Now’s the time for action. Let’s align our vision with the changing landscape and make progress.
